Projectors are used to display images and videos on large screens such as movies in a cinema or presentations in a meeting room by projecting them on an external screen with lasers or lamps that shine through mirrors or lenses onto the screen (the projector output).

The term "projector" can also refer to the equipment that runs this process, such as computer graphics projectors and other digital displays.

Projectors are fully computer-controlled devices that use a computer-generated image, called an image sequence, as an input signal to project on the display panel.

The term "projector output" refers to the signal sent from a projector, which is generally intended to be input to another device. The term is not generally used when describing other types of displays, including those in cinema.

Generally, projectors use a light source to draw images which can be projected onto any surface. There is no actual picture being created by the projector itself; rather, the image is being reflected off of a surface and then projected.

With this context in mind, one could view projectors as an output device because it outputs light instead of drawing pictures onto its own physical surface like most input devices such as cameras or printers. The only way to see a picture being output is with the projector itself.

There is a difference between input and output devices, however, as well as between devices that are capable of both input and output. Input devices typically take a series of data and in turn provide the data to an output device. For example, a keyboard sends data to an operating system (OS).

 This type of interaction is known as analog interaction because it typically has to convert physical inputs (key presses on the keyboard) into some kind of information (a character being typed onto the computer's screen).

An output device does not require such conversion. For example, a monitor displays a picture that is captured by the camera or printer, or it displays the data being processed by an input device (as it is happening) so that the user can see how their data is being manipulated. In many ways, output devices are like monitors to input devices.

However, input devices cannot be used as an output device without converting all of their functions into some kind of analog interaction (or interfacing).
